The large, glossy leaves on long stems resemble banana leaves and are usually still intact at this size; the typical splitting only starts once the plant gets bigger.

The size fits on a wide windowsill, a shelf or next to a desk. The species comes from South Africa and grows indoors to well above head height, so with enough light you'll have a large plant within a few years. Give it as much light as possible; a few hours of direct sun is fine, but not harsh afternoon sun through glass. Water it about once a week and let the top layer of soil dry out in between. Keep it away from the radiator and draughts.
