The Livistona chinensis grows steadily indoors and over the years can reach well over 2 metres tall and wide. At XXLplant you buy this fan palm at 100 to 150 cm tall, measured including the nursery pot. Expect a good width too, as the fan-shaped leaves arch gracefully outwards.
Where should you put a Livistona chinensis?
Choose a bright spot with indirect light or partial shade, for example by an east- or west-facing window. Direct sun can scorch the leaves. In winter the palm can stand a little closer to the window, as long as it doesn't get harsh sun.
How often should you water a Livistona chinensis?
Keep the compost slightly moist and let the top layer dry out a little between waterings. In the growing season that works out at about once a week, in winter once every 2 weeks. Avoid wet feet, as the palm can't cope with that.
Is the Livistona chinensis toxic to cats?
The Livistona chinensis is not known to be toxic to cats and dogs. Do watch out for the leaf stalks, though: they have sharp little teeth that a curious pet or child could prick themselves on. So put it somewhere nobody will accidentally brush against it.
Why is my Livistona chinensis getting brown leaf tips?
Brown tips are usually caused by dry air or by the soil drying out too much. Mist the leaves regularly and keep the compost lightly moist. Lower leaves turning completely brown is normal; you can remove them for a fresher look.
How is a Livistona chinensis delivered?
The plant leaves us upright in its own plant box, with the crown in a paper sleeve and the pot secured. In frost or heat we add a heat pack or cold pack, and the largest plants go with a specialist carrier, otherwise PostNL or DHL. It usually arrives within 4 to 5 working days.
