In the wild the Radermachera is a tree; indoors it stays much smaller and grows at a steady pace. XXLplant sells the Radermachera hainanensis at 190 cm tall, measured including the nursery pot. Occasional pruning keeps it at the height you want.
What is the difference between Radermachera hainanensis and Radermachera sinica?
Both species have fine, glossy leaves and are related. The Radermachera sinica is often sold as a smaller plant or bonsai, while the hainanensis is more often seen as a large indoor tree. The care is practically the same.
Where should you put a Radermachera?
Place it somewhere with bright, indirect light or partial shade, for example by an east- or west-facing window. Avoid direct sunlight, draughts and sudden temperature changes. A fixed spot between 15 and 25 °C works best.
How often should you water a Radermachera?
Keep the soil lightly moist, but let the top layer dry out a little in between. In summer that means 1 to 2 times a week, in winter less. Give small amounts regularly rather than one big soaking, and avoid water sitting in the bottom of the pot.
Is the Radermachera toxic to cats and dogs?
No, the Radermachera is considered non-toxic to people and pets. That makes it a good choice if you have a cat or dog that likes to nibble on plants.
Why is my Radermachera losing leaves after delivery?
The Radermachera reacts sensitively to a new spot, different light or different care, and sometimes drops leaves as a result. Give it a bright, fixed spot without draughts and don't keep moving it. It usually recovers within a few weeks with new leaves.
