The Zamioculcas is mildly toxic if eaten. The sap contains calcium oxalate crystals that can irritate the mouth and stomach in people and pets. So keep it out of reach of cats, dogs and small children.
How big does a Zamioculcas get?
A Zamioculcas grows slowly and usually reaches around 60 to 100 cm indoors, sometimes a little more. At XXLplant you buy it from 70 to 90 cm tall, measured including the nursery pot. Over the years the plant becomes fuller as new stems come up from the soil.
How often should you water a Zamioculcas?
Very little. Let the soil dry out completely before you water again; in winter once a month is enough. The plant stores water in its thick rhizomes, so too much water is the biggest risk.
Where should you place a Zamioculcas?
The ZZ plant likes a bright spot or partial shade, away from harsh sun. It also copes in a spot with little daylight, although it grows more slowly there. Keep the temperature between 16 and 25 °C and not below 12 °C.
Why is my Zamioculcas getting yellow leaves?
Yellow leaves on a Zamioculcas usually point to too much water. Let the soil dry out completely and check that no water is left standing at the bottom of the pot. The odd yellow leaf at the base of an old stem is normal.
Does the Zamioculcas flower?
An older Zamioculcas can occasionally produce a small spadix with a greenish spathe, low down near the soil. This flower is inconspicuous and does not appear often. You buy the plant for its glossy leaves.
How is a Zamioculcas delivered?
The plant leaves us upright in its own plant box, with the crown in a paper sleeve and the pot secured. In frost or heat we add a heat pack or cold pack, and the largest plants go with a specialist carrier, otherwise PostNL or DHL. It usually arrives within 4 to 5 working days.
