The Polyscias fruticosa 'Ming', also known as Ming aralia, has finely divided, almost lace-like leaves on thin, branching stems. This specimen is 65 cm tall including the grow pot and stands in a pot of ø17 cm, with an airy, elegant shape.

In a bright spot in the living room, bedroom or on a desk it gives a refined look, similar to a bonsai but without the strict pruning. It likes a warm spot with plenty of indirect light and evenly moist soil; let the top layer dry out a little in between. It dislikes cold draughts and dry air near a radiator, and drops leaves if moved too often. You receive it in the grow pot.

How big does a Polyscias Ming get?

The Polyscias Ming, or Ming aralia, grows slowly indoors and over the years forms a shrub or small tree with slender stems. XXLplant sells the Polyscias Ming from 65 to 90 cm tall, measured including the nursery pot. Pruning keeps it compact and in shape.

What is the difference between Polyscias Ming and Polyscias Fabian?

The Polyscias Ming (fruticosa) has finely cut, feathery leaves and looks airy and bonsai-like. The Polyscias Fabian (scutellaria), on the other hand, has round, saucer-shaped leaves. Their care is very similar.

Where should you place a Polyscias Ming?

Place it in a bright spot without direct afternoon sun and away from draughts. The Polyscias likes a fixed spot: moving it can cause leaf drop. A warm room between 18 and 24 °C with slightly higher humidity is ideal.

How often should you water a Polyscias Ming?

Keep the soil evenly, slightly moist and let the top layer dry out a little in between. Make sure no water is left standing at the bottom of the pot. It needs less water in winter than in summer.

Is the Polyscias toxic to cats and dogs?

The Polyscias contains saponins and is considered mildly toxic to cats and dogs. Eating the leaves can cause stomach and intestinal upsets. Keep it out of reach if your pet likes to nibble on plants.

Why is my Polyscias Ming dropping leaves?

Leaf drop is often caused by draughts, cold, dry air or a new position, for example just after delivery. Drying out or waterlogged roots also cause leaf loss. Give it a permanent, warm spot and keep the soil evenly moist, and new leaves will come.
